Helen Lanchbury passed away on 25th August unexpectedly at the age of 91. She had recently moved into a care home and was settling in. I knew Helen for over twenty years, from the garden club and then the Blackmore Vale Bonsai Group. Helen was a founder member of the group with four others which we founded in 2007. She was also an honorary life member. Helen was a committee member for many years as well.
Helen had a beautiful garden, which she was passionate about and a nice collection of bonsai. She was a regular at our meetings until the last two years entering the tree of the month competition and putting trees in the annual show also.
Helen was also an accomplished artist and painted the pictures we have on several of our awards. In the past couple of years Helen had been unable to do too much and had to miss many meetings. I had been looking after her trees for some time.
We sold her trees and pots at our meeting in August and got a good amount for her. We will be selling her books and the display stands she made at the September meeting. We are hoping to have an award in her name with the money we raised from the sale of her items. Geoff Hobson Blackmore Vale Bonsai Group
